“It is more important to know what sort of person has a disease than to know what sort of disease the person has” – Hippocrates
The mission of Hunterdon Healthcare’s Integrative Medicine Program is to empower individuals to achieve a state of optimal health by nurturing the mind, body and spirit, through the integration of evidence-based complementary and conventional therapies. Our vision is to develop a nationally recognized Integrative Medicine Center that provides our community with a comprehensive approach to care.
What is Integrative Medicine?
Integrative Medicine is defined as an approach to care that integrates the best of Western scientific medicine with a broader understanding of the nature of illness, healing and wellness. It treats the whole person by examining the influence that lifestyle, relationships, diet and state of mind have on overall health and offers treatment options that support the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
With an emphasis on patient empowerment and prevention, a range of modalities are offered that patients can use to better control symptoms of a wide range of acute and chronic illnesses. Dietary and lifestyle changes that can relieve or even reverse the effects of chronic disease are supported through coaching and by using evidence-based medicine from global healing traditions and modalities from around the world. Because it can help patients reverse negative habits and behaviors, Integrative Medicine also has the potential to help prevent a wide range of health issues.
True healing is not limited to physical recovery, but must also include a recovery of mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Hunterdon Healthcare’s Integrative Medicine Center incorporates a multidisciplinary approach to the healing experience that includes a variety of complimentary approaches that treat the whole person.
Our mission is to empower individuals to achieve a state of optimal health and wellbeing by nurturing the mind, body and spirit, through the integration of evidence-based complementary and conventional therapies. Our vision is to develop a nationally recognized Integrative Medicine Center that provides the residents of Hunterdon County and Somerset County, and the surrounding communities with a comprehensive approach to care.
